Passports Required For Entry To U.S. By Air
If you'll be traveling - or returning - to the United States, we want to be sure that you have all the necessary information to ensure a smooth trip. Please be familiar with the following initiatives, and be prepared to provide the necessary documentation when required. AS OF JANUARY 23, 2007, A PASSPORT IS REQUIRED TO ENTER THE U.S. BY AIR. All nationals, including U.S. citizens, will be required to hold a valid passport to enter the United States by air. This also applies when coming from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The new passport requirement means that all travelers, including U.S. citizens, who are departing the U.S. and intend to re-enter the United States are required to hold a valid passport upon departure from the U.S. This initiative will not affect travel between the United States and its territories. U.S. citizens traveling between the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa will continue to be able to use established forms of identification to board flights and for entry. Additional background information on this initiative is also available from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
